WordPress Plugins: Yoast SEO Part 1
The next Plugin you need to download is Yoast SEO. There are tons of aspects of SEO, which deserve their own step by step guide, which may happen in the future. One very important part of SEO is your content. Yoast SEO guides you on how to write your content so that it is properly formatted to show up higher on search engines.
The first step is set up Yoast SEO, a lot of the setup is things that are great for your sites SEO. After activating the plugin click on “SEO” on the sidebar. The setup for this tool is a lot of steps, so it will take us several posts to cover all of it.
The first step is to set up the “General” section. Go to “Company Info” and make sure the Website Name is correct, if you have an alternative name make sure to write it in here. Next choose if the website represents a company or a person. After that write the “Company Name” and upload the image of the logo. (If the site is for a person then just write the person’s name.) Then save changes.
In the Webmaster tools you are going to want to do each of these four because each of them helps you show up higher in search for different search engines. Open each of the four in different tabs and follow the required steps in order to verify your site. (We are going to leave “Security” and “OnPage.org” as they are.)
After you have saved changes there go to the sidebar and select “Titles and Metas.” For the title separator you can choose whichever one you want, it doesn’t make a difference. What this does is change what appears by default in your title. The plugin will by default use the title of the post, followed by the company name. So it will appear as “WordPress Plugins: Yoast SEO Part 1 – Ratz Pack Media.” Right now you are choosing the symbol that will show up there. Now save changes. The rest of this section should be left as is, unless you are an expert.
In our next post we will cover the “Social” and “XML Sitemaps” tabs in the plugin.
