It is finally time to make your ads. The biggest mistake I notice that everyone does is the number of ads that they create when starting a campaign. Most people I talk to say they make about 5-10 ads per campaign, and this is probably why their ads don’t work. When I am making ads I will make about 300-500 per campaign, most of you probably think that this is nuts, but the results I have seen from doing this is even more nuts ;).
So, you might ask, how do I make 300+ ads per campaign? Well, it’s quite simple. A normal ad on Facebook contains many parts, as we have discussed before:
1) The Post Text
2) The Headline of the Link
3) the Description of the Link
4) The Photo
5) The Call to Action Button
So if you write three lines of text and place them in each of the three possible locations (post text, headline, and description) there are 6 possible versions of that ad. Then let’s say you try five pictures that means we are now talking about 30 ads, now you need to try with and without a button, so that is 60 ads, possibly more if more than one call to action button is appropriate. And that’s just with 1 version of text. I honestly don’t think having 180 ads for a single ad set is crazy. Then you’re going to have 3-4 ad sets for a single campaign so that’s like 500+ ads for the campaign, without even trying so hard. Do you know how much time doing this in the Facebook ad manager? Like 10 hours… You now how long it takes on power editor? 20 minutes. So please for the love of God and everything holy use Power Editor! Next to the Edit button in Power Editor there is a duplicate button that will, you guessed it, duplicate the ad, which makes switching around the order very quick and simple.
How many ads do you make for a campaign? Probably not enough!
UPDATE (11/5/2015): Recently, Facebook has changed their rules and you can now only make 50 ads per ad set. While you can no longer make 200, I highly recommend that you make as close to 50 as possible.
