The True Power of Twitter – Marketing Essentials
Before you publish your post let’s set what else can be set up from this page. On the right side you will see several boxes. The top box is the Publishing options. If you have not yet published then you can save the draft, if you don’t want the page to go live on the web yet. On the right side there is a Preview Changes button that allows you to view the edits you made on the post without making the edits to the live page.
Below these buttons there are 4 lines of text:
- The current status of the post, if it is a draft, meaning not complete, Pending Review is what happens if someone of a lower level of user (usually editor level) finishes writing the post, but needs an author to make the final decision to post, and published, which means it is live on the site.
- The next line lets you choose the visibility, either public so that anyone can see it, password protected, so someone needs an account to view it, and Private so only you can see it.
- Published on tells you the date it was last published. This is a great tool if you have not yet published, you can actually prepare posts in advance, and simply have them publish automatically at a later date.
- Only if you have Yoast SEO plugin installed: SEO status just gives you the light (Red, Yellow, or Green) of how good the SEO settings for this post is.
Below that is the Publish button, which publishes or updates the post as per the options above.
Underneath this box is the Formats box. Honestly, I haven’t used this box, and there is a chance that using it won’t actually affect anything, unless your theme has specific things set up. To learn more about different formats read here.
Underneath that is the list of categories, and the box below that is a place to put the tags in for this post. (We discussed both categories and tags in an either post.)
Under that is a place to put in your featured image. By default this is the image that will be used when your article is shared on social media. It is likely that your theme also automatically places this image on the top of your article, but that isn’t always true.
These are the important tools that you need to know about before posting. Know that you know you are ready to post your first post, so give it a try!
