It’s time to get into the cPanel of your website. Don’t be nervous, just as a basic rule, if you don’t fully understand something don’t play around with it.
I will not go through each tool. but I will discuss as many tools as possible. The first thing you need to know is how to get to your cPanel. There are two ways, simply write “:2083” at the end of your website URL, for example for makelotsofmoney.com just type makelotsofmoney.com:2083 (This is not my site, so I take no responsibility for the content.) Sometimes this doesn’t work so the second way to log in is to log into Siteground, go to My Accounts, and click the red (orange?) button that says “Go to cPanel.”
The first thing I will teach you in the cPanel is how to make an email address for your website and how to set it up with a Gmail account. Scroll down to the section called “Mail.” Click the first option “Email Accounts” In email type the email address you want to use, then a password, confirm it, and click “Create Account.”
After the email address loads in the list click “More” and open the “Configure Email Client” in a new tab (by holding ctrl while you click on the link.)
Now, in the first tab, go back to the cPanel, go back to the mail section and choose “Forwarders.” Click on “Add Forwarder” type in the email address you just created and then the Gmail account you want to send your email to and click “Add Forwarder.”
Now, open Gmail in a new tab, go to settings (on the top right there is a gear, by clicking that you will see a dropdown with an option for settings) and select “Accounts and Imports.”
In the “Send Mail As:” section click “add another email address you own” type the name you want people to see when you send emails. (NOTE: If you want this email address to say your company name write it, If you want it to say your name and your company this is the place to do it!) and the newly created Email Address and click “Next Step.”
Now go back to the tab you opened earlier when you clicked “Configure Email Client.” On the left side of the page there will be a grey box. There you will see “Outgoing Server” and a website, this the SMTP server, copy this into the first box of the Gmail setup box. Below the Outgoing Server you will see the “SMTP Port” select the matching number in the set up box. Finally, copy the FULL email address and password and select “Add Account.”
In a few minutes you will receive an email in your Gmail account (that was originally sent to your newly created email account, that requires you to confirm the new set up.
There is one more set! Go back to Settings, go to Account and Imports and under your newly set up email there will be two options to “When replying to a message:” make sure the first option “Reply from the same email the message was sent” is selected.
If you followed all of these steps correctly you have now:
- Set up a New Email Address for you Website
- Forwarded All Emails to your Personal Gmail Account
- Allowed your Gmail Account to Send Emails as the Newly Created Account
Now, when you compose a new email you will notice a dropdown menu “From.” Here you can easily change to your website email account to send all business related emails.
Congratulations! You did an amazing job, this tip will save you tons of time and money next time you want to set up an email address for your business.
