We were going to talk about engagement today, but noticed something BRAND NEW (this post was originally written in July) on certain pages that we want to address while it is still new. We were on one of the pages that we manage and we noticed a new notification from Facebook. The statement said “Very responsive to messages Answers 100% in 2 minutes.” We thought, thanks Facebook, what do we care? Then we noticed a message from Facebook saying “Respond to 90% of messages with a 5 minute response time over a week to receive the indicator.”
I went to a different page and noticed the same message on a page that I didn’t manage. That is when it hit me!
A few months ago at F8 (Facebook’s big event announcing new features) they announced that Messenger was going to become an service on it’s own and Facebook plans to allow businesses to advertise, send receipts, and have customer service work within Messenger. So someone will be able to buy within Facebook and get a receipt from the business within Facebook. I loved this idea but I see that there is a hidden layer here.
Facebook is actually telling people “this business is actually real, they respond to messages very quickly.” Right now no one notices it, but soon it will matter, if it doesn’t already matter. Soon Facebook will make it that businesses who embrace Messenger will get an advantage. The ones who are real, who respond to comments, messages, and questions will be favored over ones who just advertise and post without responding.
We are no longer wondering when this affect will happen we are already trying to figure out how to leverage this piece of information for our clients.
Maybe push people to message you so that you can get this this displayed on our pages?
Maybe create specific content that gets people to engage in the post rather than engage in the website that we are sending them to?
Maybe, who knows what! The point is you need to start thinking this way, ALL THE TIME! Never stop thinking of the next move! That is how to be successful!
