Earlier we spoke about getting seen in the news feed, but getting seen isn’t enough, you need engagement, and not fake engagement, Facebook has been working to eliminate fake engagement.
(There used to be tons of viral posts like “Who will win the World Series for Yankees share this post, for A’s like the post, Facebook did some research and found out that while lots of people will be engaged they don’t consider it something they actually like, ie fake engagement.)
So how do you get real engagement? You need to post things that your followers actually care about, engaging articles, great videos, and cool pictures.
Gary Vee has a great line “On Twitter content is king, on Facebook context is king.” It’s not enough to have great content on Facebook, it’s needs to be the right content for your followers, if they don’t like it they won’t share it with their friends, so no matter how good the content, if your followers don’t care no one will ever see it.
So knowing this, you must understand who your followers are and what they like, then provide them with high quality posts just for them.
Several weeks ago I set up a website click ad, and I included a tracking link so I would know how many clicks I got (and if anyone signed up to the email list or purchased an item). Before the ads even ran I noticed that I got 4 clicks on the link, so I began to investigate and I discovered that the 4 clicks were Facebook bots.
These bots were checking the quality of the site, the connection between the link and the ad, and many other things that Facebook considers important that we don’t even know about.
But, you must remember this, Facebook checks everything before any of your followers see anything to make sure that the posts are high enough quality.
If you ever ran an ad and saw a ranking out of 10 this is Facebook’s way of telling you that they know if your people will like it.
If you were wondering, those ads were getting $.03 a click, for over 3,000 clicks to the site.
