When advertising anything the amount of steps to get to convert should be as little as possible. If you want to give away an eBook for an email address then you should send people to a landing page with as simple instructions as possible. Tell them exactly what they are getting and make the process very simple. The more complicated it is the less likely the person will do it.
Recently, I saw an ad to sign up for an email list (nothing for free, just a push to join the list). The ad had a nice photo, and the content was great. Even the landing page was nice looking and very bare bones. The landing page said something like “join our mailing list!” Then had a button that said “sign up here.” When you push this button all that happens is a place for an email and name drop down.
While the ad was great I am confident that this company was losing 60+% on conversions simply because they had one extra button to push to allow people to give their information.
So next time you advertise make sure the process is as simple as possible.
