After my rant yesterday why I hate Mailchimp, let me tell you why I love it. Mailchimp makes it easy to design, schedule, analyze, tweak, etc. you email newsletters. But most importantly, when designing an email it auto-saves. This feature is most likely why I like Mailchimp over the other low tier options.
I was once designing an email in Constant Contact. I had worked about 2 hours (in my early days of email marketing) to get all the designs, the fonts, layout, etc. just right. Then, as I was finishing the computer crashed. When it reloaded everything was gone. This would never happen on Mailchimp, because Mailchimp auto-saves after each change. At the end of the day, I hate doing work twice, so that is what is most important to me.
Additionally, about 3 big updates ago Mailchimp added a drag and drop option for their email templates, which is so easy to manipulate that you don’t have to be a designer to get it right. The user experience is just that much better on Mailchimp than the other (affordable) options that is no contest.
Every year or so Mailchimp comes out with updates that are really fantastic and change the experience significantly for the better. So when choosing an EMS I will always tell my clients and friends to go with Mailchimp. And the best part is that it’s free until 2,000 email addresses!

The next couple tips will be how to set up and use a Mailchimp account, everything from building a list, to setting up automation (a paid feature), to editing your emails, and everything in between. If you don’t use Mailchimp it may not be so helpful, and if you have nothing then I highly advise making a free account so that you can follow along and learn as we go.
