Now that you have started following the influencers on Twitter, replying to their tweets and watching what people are asking them you need to start following the up and coming mini influencers (those that have 10s of thousands of followers. These people are usually much more active on Twitter, which is likely how they grew their fan base.)
By following these types of people you create an image on Twitter that they are your peers and people will begin to see you as such, even if you have a much smaller following than them. But the question is how do you find these people, who are much harder to find than the big influencers?
When I originally wrote these tips you could go to Twitter Analytics and see the people that your followers are following. That isn’t possible anymore directly on Twitter. There are some paid options out there like Buzzsumo or Followerwonk, but none of these as concise answers as Twitter analytics used to give.
The best way right now to find these people is to use a service called CrowdFire. We will be talking about this service several others times over this course. I hate, hate, hate, suggesting services like this, but unfortunately, tons of businesses use these services the wrong way, but there are some great tools within the service that can really help you.
Using the “Copy Followers” and “Keyword Follow” tools. Put in the name of an influencer that you follow. Crowdfire will give you a list of all of the influencers. This will not give you an exact list of the people we are talking about, it gives you a list many of the people that follow this influencer, and the last time they were active.
Now it’s time to do the work. Find 5-10 influencers in your space, get this list and look at the people that were active in the last 36 hours, click on their accounts, and read the tweets and responses they are putting out. Are these people talking about content that has to do with your niche? Do you have value to add to this person?
If this person fits the bill then follow them or respond to a tweet of theirs. Obviously, this process can be time consuming, but it is worth it to find great people to follow, and interact with.
