At this point you are following the influencers, the medium size accounts, plus a few smaller accounts that have expressed interest in the influencers tweets. The likelihood is that many people have followed you back and you are slowly building a following. But is this the following you wanted? To see if your followers are indeed your target audience go into Twitter Analytics. This has changed a lot in the last few months, so let’s go into details of the Audiences tab on top.
There are four tabs on this page:
- Overview
- Demographic
- Lifestyle
- Mobile Footprint
In Overview you will see the interests of the people that follow you. Are these what you expected? Are the interests totally off? Hopefully, most of the interests are what you expected, and maybe 1 or 2 are a surprise. If the majority sounds totally off or means you did something wrong and are attracting the wrong crowd, but if most of the things are right it means that you now have 1 or 2 new interests that you didn’t think of before to target that your potential customers may be interested in. It is worth the time to go through influencer accounts in this interests and look through the replies to see if anyone there is part of your target audience. This is a great way to extend out of your direct market and find less obvious people who may be just as interested in your products.
There are other things in this tab, so just take a look around.
On this page you will also see the percentage of men and women that follow you, and which wireless carrier they are using.
In demographics you will see the language that your audience is speaking, which country they are from, and which region they live in.
In lifestyle you will see the interest list again, and which kind of TV shows they watch.
Finally, in the Mobile Footprint you can see your followers wireless carrier again, and which type of device they are using while on Twitter.
From this tab you can compare your audience to other audiences, based on other interests, age, demographics, etc.
