I got one more Snapchat tip in me. This is probably the most important tip of all. The hardest thing about Snapchat is that it is incredibly difficult to get followers. This is on purpose, most people don’t want to spend the time building an audience, they want to use their existing audience.
This is why Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn let you import your email contact, Instagram let’s you import your Facebook contacts, and this is why Periscope and Medium let you import your Twitter contacts. If you remember the days of Blackberry BBM, you will remember that everyone would give out their codes, so that people would BBM them. For a very long time BBM was huge. Then, years later BBM was finally released for iPhone and Android and there was a ton of hype, but no one used it because it meant they needed to build a new audience and spend time getting each person’s code in order to connect.
Snapchat has only 3 ways to follow someone.
- Scan their Snapcode
- Look them up by username
- Follow someone and hope they will follow you back
Those are the only ways for people to follow you. There is no easy way to get a lot of followers so you need to work. So here are some tips to get people to follow you on Snapchat.
Firstly, share your snapcode and username on any platform that you have an audience on. Send out a post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Cyber Dust, etc. Put it on your website, in your email newsletter and put it on your YouTube videos. Heck, print it out and put it on the back of your phone. If you are so daring, put it on your business cards. Make sure to get your snapcode out.
There are even people that change their profile pictures on different platforms to their snapcode so that they will gain more followers whenever they comment on a post someone will see their code.
The next thing you want to do after you literally plaster your code on your front door, buy out billboards in Manhattan, and stick them on blimps. </sarcasm> (But if you do these things don’t forget to put my snapcode on their too!)
Since Snapchat is still young most people who don’t have hundreds of followers will follow you back. So, search platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Google to find people in your space that you want to follow you, and reach out and follow them.
There is a fourth way to get people to follow you. If you are at an event and there are a lot of people there that use Snapchat, ask them to go into the “Add Nearby” section. Then, anyone who is close to you will show up on that list, and you will be able to add them from there.
Snapchat is probably the hardest platform to grow an audience, but if you do grow one there people will be there to see your snaps and stories and hopefully be interested in your product or service.
I hope you enjoyed these Snapchat tips!
If you haven’t followed me yet, do it now! AzrielR (and my snapcode is on the top of this page!)
