The user interface of Snapchat is totally different than that of any other platform we have seen. There are different types of swipes that work in different locations that do different things. Since it has a strong learning curve it may prevents older people from learning the platform. But, that has not stopped the younger generation from flocking to the platform.
The platform has only 100 million daily users, which is much smaller than Facebook and Twitter. So, why is it getting so much attention? Kids love the app and the amount of growth on the platform is unlike anything we have seen in a long time.
In 2018 the kids on this platform will be between 16 and 30, and there will be a lot more people on the platform. So you have a choice, wait until everyone gets there in 2018, or start building your following now, putting out great content to get attention and grow your brand. As time goes on the platform will explode and you will grow with it. If however, you wait, you will get on with the mad rush that is causing everyone else to move onto the platform, and starting to learn the platform, and build a following will be much more difficult.
Now that you know why you need to get on Snapchat it is time to make an account. There are only three ways for people to follow you:
- With your username
- With your snapcode (we will get into this later)
- With your snapchat URL (It is snapchat.com/add/USERNAME)
If your username is hard to remember it will make it harder for people to follow you. So try to make something that is easy to spell or remember. After you choose a username it is time to get to using the app. Next week we will discuss how to actually use the platform.
